Vandenberg Village Rotary - A Message from the Club President

Rotary Club of Vandenberg Village is an organization of local business and professional leaders who are part of District 5240 and Rotary International that promotes humanitarian efforts on all three levels. The Rotary Club of Vandenberg Village has contributed toward the many millions of dollars that Rotary International has put into this effort. We have also given moral support to the workers on the ground where polio is still holding out, by sending members to India and Ghana as part of national immunization days. Rotary Club of Vandenberg Village is proud of these efforts that have brought Polio from endemic in 125 countries down to 4 and 100s of thousands infected yearly to 350 worldwide this year. But Rotary isn't only about making donations of time and money to worthy causes, its about having fun through fellowship with fellow members and their guests. At weekly meetings we hear programs relevant to the community and world mixed with humor and good cheer. Fund raising should also be fun as was experienced at our Funnel Cake booth at this year's Flower Festival.

One of Rotary's strengths is in leadership training. The leadership is changed each year and preparation for this is provided by 2 programs focusing on leadership - Potential Rotary Leadership Seminars open to all Rotarians and the President Elect Training Seminar for next years President.

In addition leadership training is provided to high school students in the Interact program. This is open to all 4 grades of high school where the values of rotary exemplified by the 4 way test which says " Is it the truth" " Is it fair to all concerned" "will it build Good will and better Friendships" and Will it be beneficial to all concerned". In preparation for their senior year 2 members of the club are sent to a weekend retreat called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards RYLA which brings together members of other district clubs for leadership activities and fun.
